I can’t believe this site exists, it’s a wonderful idea, well done 😀

OK, my problem: a rather old Hoover R5330 fridge/freezer, the fridge part works fine but the freezer suddenly stopped working some years ago, now we want to use it again so assuming that the thermostat was knackered I bought a replacement VT9 stat and fitted it, the freezer still doesn’t work and the on light doesn’t light up either although the fast freeze and high temperature lights both work! Now either I’ve connected the stat wrongly, which is possible as the connections are numbered differently, or there’s some other problem! Any ideas please?

    Re: fridge/freezer problem

I can find very little info on this model I’m afraid.

Firstly, does it have two compressors (the black motor(s) at the back), is there a seperate control for the freezer (the VT9 is a fridge thermostat) ?

    Re: fridge/freezer problem

It’s a 6.71/5.12 fridge/freezer with two motors both of which get warm or hot, the freezer thermostat control is at the bottom of the f/f and at the top of the f/f there are 3 lights with 2 slider controls for the freezer: on, temperature too high and fast freeze. The on light doesn’t light up but the other 2 do. My problem is that the original thermostat has 3 connections numbered 1, 2 & 3 but the replacement one (VT9) has 3 which are numbered 3, 4 & 6. I have a live, neutral and common cable to connect. The wiring diagram for the VT9 stat is here: http://catalogue.actrol.com.au/ProductL … PageNumber)/097/$File/PAGE_97.HTM

Could you tell me the correct connections please ?

Thanks for taking time to help me 🙂

Please don’t take this the wrong way but you are completely off track I’m afraid.

Thermostats of this type don’t have a neutral for one and as previous the VT9 is a fridge thermostat and will have no bearing on the freezer given that you have two compressors on this model.

Engineer time I think in all honesty, check here Repairs@

If you do decide to continue, safety first and power off at all times :zap:

Thanks for your reply Dave, it turned out to be a lack of gas problem !!

Keep up the good work 🙂
