ParticipantThe problem I have is this:
Realised the freezer…. well, erm ….was`nt freezing,this
obviously affects the fridge part as well.
quickly worked out the compressor (Single) was not
kicking in.
My hobby is electronics (not deeply)but I have a fair
understanding of the subject.
After a internet search seems this model has an electronic
module built into the roof of the fridge part, guessing the
control knob is connected to a potentiometer I flicked the
knob and the compressor started up and proceeded to do
what it was designed for, make things cold, that is basically
how I have managed to get it to work.
Q: Do I have a faulty pot` or is (presumeably) a sensor
(temp)on the board faulty?
I imagine there is a thyristor on board could this be the
problem?
Turning the temp knob never made it turn on but a
reasonable flick does.
How is the temperature controlled on this model?
I assume it should come on every 20/30 minutes or so.
Finally, is there a fan on this model?Any assistance/advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks.October 16, 2005 at 9:25 pm #150658Dave_Conway

I would say that 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the faults on these Brandt manufactured units are down to PCB problems.
The sensors are thermistors (NTC) and are not replaceable as they are foamed in to the insulation.
We don’t have component level information I’m afraid as the only option from the manufacturer is a new PCB at about £80. If you’re confident with component level repairs then please go ahead (safely, power off etc of course).
Dave.

Thanks for the reply Dave,so I guess there are no Temp
sensors on board and they are all embedded i.e. in
the walls of the fridge unit?
The thing that points me in the direction of the main
PCB unit is the fact that I exert movement on the
adjustment knob and it springs into action.
I have`nt removed the PCB module to see what
components are on there but feel this could be a
(BIG)relatively) simple repair, maybe a bad solder joint or
potentiometer.
Do you know what type of IC thats on board?
(16 pin DIL,I think)
Thanks for the help.
I`ll keep you posted on my progress (Hopefully +ve)Pete.

Did you get your problem sorted out ?
I’ve got the same model and the freezer part is not working properly –
it seems to be going at about 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} capacity. The fridge seems to be working at the moment.
It takes about 4 hours to cool a beer down in the freezer .
Any ideas ?
Do you know the number of the service dept ?
Cheers

Hi
Still have`nt sorted my problem out yet as it will require
the module to be removed, still flicking the knob to
get it working (really must attend to it).
I`m no expert but if your fridge section is working ok
and the freezer section is less efficient check this: when
the compressor has kicked in open your freezer door and listen
for a fan working usually you can feel it blowing/circulating
air around (does in my model) if not that could be your problem.
(Dodgy fan).
Overstocking the freezer probably not a good idea either
i.e. filling every nook and cranny.
Cant help with service Dept but I`m sure Dave can.
Hope this helps,as I say I`m not a service engineer,Dave on these
boards would probably have the answer,He`s very helpful and
informed.
Good luck!Pete

Check Repairs@ for an engineer should you need one 🙂
