    First four jobs today,

A 44 years old Bendix fridge, yes bendix, the lady has the recept, cost £25. First time its gone wrong, thermostat. Asked me if the seal was okay, when the door is 15mm from the cabinet, the door handle is snatched out of your hand and slams shut

1988 Candy, never had the filter cleaned, very little in it, faulty motor capacitor.

13 month old zanussi, sock between drums. Computer panel given up, machine scrapped, panel £103 + vat + labour

2 day old Chinese fridge, no not from the takeaway, no signs of getting cold. Scrapped.

Shows how much we’ve advanced on appliances. Ace.

If anyone gets a chance, try and get your local Hotpoint engineer to let you have a look at the 2nd edition of ‘In Service’, the in house magazine for the Indesit Company service division, it is both funny and also rather sad, ( I say this as an ex Hotpoint engineer)

    This bit caught my eye.

Re, the EAT Team, no not an invitation to stuff your face but the Exchange Authorisation Team……. I quote.

‘At the turn of the year it became clear that leaving the ability to exchange our appliances with a wide field of personnel meant that last year our replacements virtually tripled to previous years’.

So there you have it, nothing to do with the ‘quality’ of the machines, it is all the fault of the staff. 😥

    Read as:

“Exchanges are costing us a fortune, management or quality control cannot be to blame so it has to be you engineers that are just changing them carte blanche because you’re lazy.

We don’t want to hear the excuses that the customer has waited three weeks for you to arrive and is upset or that you are unable to repair on the spot or even that the appliance has collapsed. You will repair them, end of story.”

I have to laugh at this, I really do.

If companies like The Indesit Company want to continually drive down the retail retail prices then they turn the appliances into a commodity. In this modern world customers simply expect an exchange, driven by insane promises from certain retailers, then when it comes back to haunt them they blame the people that are left to pick up the cr4p at the end of the chain.

Must be a lovely company to work for. (Hope the sarcasm works there)

    K.
