Customer just phoned, an old friend ( apparently 😥 ). Machine will wash but trips RCD as soon as it picks up to spin, says it is about ten years old, I’m thinking motor, any other things to look out for before I go to see this machine ?

It sounds like it, the only other thing I’ve had on these is one of the drum supports cracks and the drum cuts a groove in the heater but then it should trip the RCD all the time.

And I thought Hotpoint had the copyright on that fault. 😉

Water ingress into the motor from the rear and front tub joint leaking on spin. Zanussi used to suffer the same. With the motor wiring requiring checking where it passes through its cable clamps from front to back under the drum.

Thanks for all the input chaps, I will arrive tomorrow full of confidence. 😆
Oh well that didn’t last long 😉

Customer said that she has had intermittant spin problems for a while. motor is physically and electrically perfect, brushes hardly worn, comm in good condition. All seals and wiring and all other components check out OK, machine is very clean inside. The only sign of water ingress, is corrosion along the lower internal edge of the facia backplate, obviously coming from dispenser. Ran on wash, drain, spin, worked perfectly on all functions. ❓
