ParticipantI’ve got a Bosch dishwasher (SGS6302GB/07) and I’ve noticed for a while that a very slight odour is left on the glasses. I don’t notice it on plates or mugs, but when I drink from a glass I always notice the very slight odour (unless I rinse the glass first under the tap). The dishwasher itself doesn’t smell and the only thing slightly out of the ordinary is that I place the Finish table in among the plates rather than the detergent compartment because more often than not the plastic door on the detergent compartment fails to open. Does any one have any ideas or suggestions?

KeymasterStop using tablets, we don’t like them much… issues. 😉
What’s the odour like? Any film or discolouration on the glass?

My wife put one of those lemony dangly freshness things in to try and get rid of the smell, but it didn’t work. There’s no film or discolouration on the glass and the odour is so slight that I can’t really tell what it smells like. I notice that the 1.5″ of water that gets left in the sump of the dishwasher (below the filter) is yellowish in colour and if I drain it out, then I don’t seem to get the odour on the glasses for several cycles.
PS. Because the plastic door on the detergent compartment sticks, then I think our only option is tablets trown in with the plates at the start of the cycle.

Does empty hose go to sink spout?? and if so does the hose coil higher than the spout to stop backflow of sink water

The hose from the dishwasher is on the right hand side and comes up from the floor. The sink is on the left and the vertical pipe comes down from some vegetable washer thingy.

KeymasterThat’ll do it. Your waste is lower than the sink waste so basically waste water is going back into the dishwasher by the looks of that.
Raise the drain hose a few inches. 😉

If you are putting the tablet in the tub with the plates then it’s likely that the detergent is being washed away in the pre-rinse.
You have two choices; either repair the dispenser or put the tablet in before the main wash cycle, not the pre-rinse. This entails opening the door during the wash which is not advisable. There are two reasons for this;
1)The door switch is not designed to switch the heater current and therefore over a prolonged period the door switch could fail.
2)The vacuum created by the action of opening the door can fool the water level system and cause fill problems.
The dispenser not opening problem is usually the dispenser itself but it could be the control module at fault. It will need an engineer to check to be sure.

I know its not the control, its the latch mechanism that sticks.

Replacement dispenser complete is p/no 263088, about £32 +VAT etc. Alternatively, check http://www.bshappliancecare.com and follow links into Partfinder, the individual dispenser components can be identified and sourced there.

Be very careful if you have a go at taking the dispenser out. The edges of the stainless steel door panel are razor sharp.

Not to mention a swine to push in (will become obvious), watch you dont bend the stainless door in the process

Thanks to all your help I think I now know what the problem is. I tried throwing the tablet into the dishwasher just as the main wash was starting and the glasses came out without any trace of an odour. So it seems this problem was directly caused by the tablet getting washed away by the pre-wash. Then I took the cover off the dispenser and had a closer look inside. The dispenser itself and the latch looked fine (no signs of wear), but there seemed to be something broken off the cover. If I am lucky I hope the problem will be resolved when I buy a new cover. Thanks to you all for your help (and patience).
