ParticipantHi. We have a CREDA T630CW condensor tumble dryer, about 3 years old. A few months ago it started to make a metal on metal graunchy noise as the drum rotated. This initially varied in sound level, but then got progressively worse, but didn’t affect the operation or performance of the machine. When our local “engineer” finally came to look at it, he took the top off and kind of squeezed the outer casing of the machine, as if it was out of square and he was correcting it, and miraculously the noise disappeared. he wasn’t sure what the problem was but recommended new bearings and belt. The following week the machine developed a new fault, in that it now won’t run for more than 1 minute before stopping, but the pushing the on button in will start it turning, but not click to ‘on’, but after about ten minutes or so, the button will click to ‘on’ to operate for another minute and then it stops again. When left overnight it will operate for about 3 minutes. the machine will always work if you push the on button in, and hold it there. Our engineer says it’s probably had it and we should buy another one, preferably something German. Is it beyond help, or is there a less drastic solution? Yours hopefully and thanks for the excellent website.

artee,
Sounds like you have truly ‘run your machine into the ground’ here 🙁
Usually the front drum support wears quite quickly on these beasts and that accounts for your engineer guy messing with its alignment.
So now the drum is flapping about inside in all directions and no doubt attributes to it cutting out and stopping….OH DEAR!
Diagnosis therefore = Clapped!
Prognosis therefore = You will likely accept his advise and go out and buy a BOSCH. 🙂That guy (engineer) got it right first time 😀

Hi Martin,
No miracle cures then. Thanks for the reply, I’m pretty disillusioned with this machine, as my wife and I are the only users (no hoards of kids etc.), its durability is really unimpressive. Is it really worth spending, say £400 on a german machine (and how do I justify the extra cost to my wife?). Do you think a Bosch/AEG etc. is going to last at least 5 years (I’m an optimist) without any trouble? Or have build standards everywhere dropped to lowest possible levels? Thanks again, it’s great to get an un-biased 2nd opinion.November 2, 2005 at 4:52 pm #152459Martin

Good heavens…YES! (AEG are Zanussi, which are also a fine brand by the way)
