ParticipantEverything else works but the machine just continually fills with hot water during the wash cycle. I suspect it may be the solenoid “thing” located just behind the water inlets inside the casing.
We have to switch off the hot water tap at the wall during the cycle to stop it overfilling and bursting!!!! We can leave the cold tap on as that seems fine.
Any ideas please?November 7, 2005 at 1:10 pm #153231Dave_Conway

You may be correct about the valve but does it still fill when no power is applied to the machine (unplug it from the socket) ?

If the hot water inlet valve inside the machine was faulty, then it would fill whether the machine was on or off!
Filling continuously whilst the programme is running suggests a programme based fault I would think? However if your problem is resolved simply by turning off the hot supply, then leave well alone as the machine perform perfectly well with just the cold connected.
(unless that is you wish to select a 90 degree cycle, then it may be a problem as it would need the hot water switching back on)

ParticipantHi Dave,
No the machine does not fill when there is no power to the machine – only when switched on to washNovember 7, 2005 at 1:17 pm #153234siouxw
ParticipantHi Martin,
I suppose we could try that – the machine will heat the water to temperature, won’t it?November 7, 2005 at 9:52 pm #153235Penguin45

If the hot valve is continuously filling when the power is on it will be due to a transistor failure on the computer board. Part number is C00090981 and will need the eeprom transfering across from your old board. You should seriously consider a professional repair due to the complexity of the repair.

ParticipantHi Penguin45,
Hmmmm, bad news. Would it be better just to buy a new machine? It is at my daughter’s (student) house, so it really gets a lot of welly!November 7, 2005 at 11:58 pm #153237Penguin45

Well, it ain’t the finest washer ever built. If it’s in a muti share student house (5? 6?) it verges on cruelty……. (no disrespect to daughter implied).
You need to consider a budget of £300-350 for a robust appliance. Zanussi, Whirlpool and Gorenje are all adequate, personally I think that Bosch is a bit better – 2 year guarantee is nice.
Or, go mad and buy a Miele – daughter will inherit it in the distant future.
