I have a problem with a Whirlpool Infinity washing machine , model AWM 1200 “ABB” ,The door interlock has failed . the original one has 3 tags on it , and the 3 wires are in a plug . The 3 wires are live in neutral in and switched neutral out . The new interlock received today has 5 tags and is said to superceed the 3tag type . No modification info is supplied . Anyone come across this ? Any help would be appreciated .

    Re: Whirlpool interlock wiring

The old style switch had 5 tags on it, the top two are on a microswitch that lets the programmer know the door is closed so that the spin can commence the part number of the 5 tag one is 481228058019, which is now obselete.

The new ones only come with 3 tags and are part no 481228058044

If you have one of the old type ones all you do is connect the plug to the bottom of the switch, if I remember correctly you have to turn the plug 180 degrees to get it to fit in the key on the bottom of the door lock.

The plug will only fit in one position and the terminal numbers are the same as the original

    Good luck

    Re: Whirlpool interlock wiring

I blew up a Bosch timer pcb the other day.
Had an interlock which was very similar to the old one but not quite.
Plug fitted fine when turned 180*. Switched on and there was a barely audible pop.
Was unrepairable by QER though they had a go, bless ’em.
One of my more expensive mistakes.

    Re: Whirlpool interlock wiring

The problem with thermal interlocks is that they are virtually impossible to test with a test meter.

Usually, but not always, there are terminal numbers (or a wiring diagram) printed on the unit.

Checked this morning and you have to turn the plug 180 degrees to get it to fit.

    Re: Whirlpool interlock wiring

Thanks again chaps , fitted the new 5 tag this afternoon , and it worked OK . The secret is , to check that each wire in the plug fits to the same terminal number on the new interlock as it did on the old .
