My oven (make and model above) does not respond to the temperature control at all, and heats up to maximum temperature as soon as you turn it on. It will cut out if left on as it gets too hot. Any suggestions for replacement parts (is it the thermostatic temperature switch?) are welcome, as the Good Lady needs to cook without burning (the food)…

Is it the fan oven element or the grill element which heats up?

Can you hear any noise from the switch (knob) you use to select the temperature?

It is the normal fan oven part which warms the oven which you would expect to heat up when you have turned the main ‘on’ knob through 180 degrees. The grill also works (but only when you turn the knob through 90 degrees, as would be expected).

Can you hear a faint click from the thermostat control when you turn it on/off. Perhaps around the 50’C mark?

It clicks at about 50 degrees C when you turn it on, but not when you turn it off.

Hmm. Is this a new oven?

Does the oven heat up regardless of where you turn the control to (i.e. fully on or fully off)?

No, the oven is not new. It is about 5 years old.

Even if the temperature knob is in the vertical position (ie on 0 degrees), the oven still heats up to nuclear temperatures and everything is reduced to a black crisp within 20 minutes…

There’s not much more than a switch, a thermostat and an element involved in heating this machine. Most probably the thermostat has failed but you might want to have it properly diagnosed by a local engineer to confirm the fault. Try Repairs@ for professional help.

FYI, the thermostat is part number 76X3759 and retails at £31.39 exc. VAT & P+P

    Switch is 78X2442 £20.74 exc. VAT & P+P

    Element is 76X3719 £26.99 exc. VAT & P+P

If you wish to order any of these parts you can do so by sending an email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk
