Oh God!
I hadn’t thought about the implications. Thanks for pointing that out.
It’s being removed now, so this thread may not make sense to anyone looking on in a few minutes.

Right, that’s that sorted.
The Hotpoint Logo was only there for information.
Can anyone confirm definitely that the reproduction of a company Logo is actually illegal? In this instant there was no [deliberate] implication that I am an approved repairer.
I notice on several sites, where spare parts are sold, that the manufacturer’s logos are often used as shortcut icons to that particular company’s products.

The people to ask are Hotpoint. They may regard it as a bit of free advertising or they may consider you to be a rival repairer.

It’s a copyright thing. If the logo is trademarked and copyrighted then, by the letter of the law, you should really have permission to use it.
However there is a workaround in part that we use on UKW whereby we openly state on the pages that all other (i.e. not our) logos remain the property and copyright of whoever owns the logo. If they want them removed that’s fine and, in the end, it’s about as much that would ever probably happen so long as all parties remain reasonable about it if there is an objection.
That said, most companies would view their logo being used as a promotional tool as doing exactly what it was intended to achieve and if you sell genuine parts or finished goods then there is usually little objection. What tends to wind companies up is where someone purports to be that company or some form of “authorised” sales or service that either is or represents the company without permission.
In the end it’s all about what’s considered to be reasonable and whether it would be worth making an issue of it.

A long, long time ago, Hoptoint or GDA threatened us with legal action if the Hotpoint logo on our vans was not removed. That also went for Yellow pages ads but it seems we were one of few who took any notice. A couple of years ago I designed our yellow pages add that named a few quality brands. On my copy I wrote only the brand names down but Yellow pages took it on themselves to replace these with logos for which they apparently have a databse of. I Picked it up in the proof stage and only kept those for which we had some kind of official status.

That’s interesting. A local electrical shop that sells Hotpoint appliances but does not offer repairs recently bought a new Transit Connect van. They have a photo of a Hotpoint washing machine on the van and apparently Hotpoint sent them that to decorate the vehicle.
