KeymasterNo idea, could just be busy I guess.
I think it’s time we removed Alexa from the mods though, I don’t think we’re going to see his return.

Does the constitution allow this??? Is this not similar to removing a High Court Judge??? :rotfl:John

Me too to be honest, although we should leave his trade status in place just in case 🙂
If there’s no objection, I’ll do it later.

I think it odd that there is an Aussie forum anyway? I guess there must be some benefit…dunno 🙄

I know it gives Chris hours of fun answering their queries so that’s one benefit. There was even mention yonks back about branching out with aussiewhitegoods.com and Alexa helping run it, but I guess that all dryed up like a wallabies whatsit. And Alexa must have waltzed off with Matilda I guess :con:
The only downside I can see is that, as Dave observed today, it just cloggs up the scrolling XML syndication with little or bugger all interest for UK users thats all 🙁
But I’ve never ever seen a Fisher Paykel to know what it is anyway. 🙄 Chris is sending me on a mission to Auckland to find out in the New Year, so maybe if I come back I could help out with all these many questions they keep asking us on UKW :rotfl:

Martin,
AUS is 220VAC, same as the UK.
AUS gets s LOT of EU appliances as it’s piss easy to get them into Australia as there’s no voltage change. Now look at the volume of posts in there as opposed to the EU or US ones.
And, apart from that, there’s nowhere else on the web for such information so why shouldn’t we help people from Australia, after all we sent most of their decendants there? 😉
It’s also damned interesting.

Sorry about the block of posts this morning – there were a couple I couldn’t work out so sent for Kiwi (Ross). He appears to have enjoyed himself!
And yes, it is interesting – most of these are logic problems as there is little commonality with our familiar front loaders.

220Vac
how times have changed….
just what do we recieve from our respective suppliers?
I was always taught on 240 volts, yes it was a long time ago (circa 1968 when I started my apprenticeship), but it was 240 we were taught at tech too. In 73 when we went to SI units it was still 240volts with RMS being .7071 of peak, so when did we go to 220vac?

KeymasterIf you look at the rating of a lot of electronics it’s 220VAC. The UK, as far as I am aware, operates on 220-260VAC depending on local conditions, 240 is taken as a mean, and this allows for power spikes and irregularities in the delivery of mains voltage.
In the end all I know is that the mains voltage delivered is inconsistent, I don’t need to know more beyond it can kill me.
But, for the techinically minded it was 240VAC +/- 6{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} and was changed (dunno when) to 230V +10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}/-6{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} due to harmonisation with other EU states and this is now what the power companies are supposed to supply.

I have a customer who lives on a long boat and uses shore supplied power when moored. After 3 Zanussi module burn outs iI checked his supply voltage, 273volts!
