Trying (the best word to describe this) to replace the heater on a Miele tumble drier T495C. The heater can be seen through the holes in the centre of the back of the drum but despite hours tryingI cannot get access to the the screws. After removing, deep breath, the front panel, front drum support, motor, condenser/fan housing I have got the drum out complete with heater plate and bearing but still cannot remove the heater plate from the drum as they are held together by the bearing. Surely it doesnt mean drilling out those chunky rivetts?
Anyone here suitably experienced and wants to help me out?
    Thanks
    Mark.

    Re: Miele T495C

INSIDE DRUM THE REAR PLATE IS HELD BY SIX ALLEN SCREWS, UNDO THESE.
TWO HOLES IN REAR OF DRUM ABOUT THREE INCHES APART NEAR CENTRE ( THEY ARE A BIT BIGGER THAN OTHERS ) WHEN AT 3 o/c & 9 o/c YOU WILL SEE TWO MORE SCREWS WITH SAME HEAD THROUGH THE HOLES THESE HOLD THE REAR BEARING TO BACKING PLATE. UNDO THESE THEY ARE CAPTIVE IN BEARING. LIFT BACK PLATE & PULL THE BACK PLATE WIILL COME AWAY THEN YOU CAN GET TO HEATER . SOUNDS WORSE THAN IT IS.

    HOPE THIS HELPS.

If you have drum out of cabinet just undo two screws at 3o/c & 9 o/c not the ones round the outside and you can lift off drum with bearing [ brain working better today]

Thanks, Clayside. and all who PM’d me about this. Its now up and running and next time I wont get caught out. In my defence, the said screws were covered in dried fluff and hidden to someone who didnt know they were there.
I ask myself once more, what did we ever do before UKW?
