Legally am I allowed to disconnect my own gas cooker and connect a new (to me) one ? Am using bottled gas not “mains” and am going to need to change the fitting on the “new” one to couple up to the existing pipework … if not how much should I reasonably be expected to pay out to have this done …( anyone want the job / recommend anyone in Lincolnshire ) Not till after xmas tho …

No, is the short answer, you can’t legally install it yourself.

Have a word with Kevin, he should know someone in Lincs who is LPG registered 🙂

Legally you can un couple (flexi hose not hard pipe) your existing cooker to allow cleaning, decorating behind, but not a new appliance because it has to be commissioned and may have a fault which you may not pick up on.

I’m fitting a kitchen in my wife’s old flat (joys of being married…). At the moment, it has a free standing gas cooker, connected by a flexible hose with a bayonet connection. I want to fit a built-in electric oven & hob.

Am I right in thinking I can just disconnect the gas hose & the valve will seal & can be left that way?

Yes Matthew you can, but for safety’s sake I’d enourage you to have it capped off properly.
