ParticipantHi
First post on this site so please be kind 😉
Given the story of woe that follows:
-
* Is is just me having a bad run of luck, or is this pretty common for Baumatic?
* Is it worth getting it fixed or cutting my loses and buying something new?
I have had the somewhat dubious pleasure of owning a Baumatic Integrated Dishwasher(s) for the past 4 years. Those 4 years have been full of problems….
Initially purchased a BDW8 integrated dishwasher for £349.00 as it offered the features required at a reasonable price, and the sales person sung the praises of it’s quality…..how I rue that day!
Various problems occured during the first year:- Drying fan assembly moulding fell apart, problem with the adjustable legs, door tensioners broke, cutlery tray broke anyway all problems fixed under warrenty.
After about 13 months it started leaking water onto the floor as a result of split overflow pipes, a common problem according to the engineer who identified the fault. He made a temporary repair and ordered the required parts. However two months and a whole pile of excuses later they still hadn’t managed to get any spares, however after complaining in writing Baumatic did kindly refund the call out charge.
Baumatic did call and tell us on several occasions over the following months that they where still having problems getting parts…but they never arrived.
A year past and then the whole machine stopped working. A problem caused as a result of the split pipes leaking water into the machine.
Blimey I’m rambling….
Anyway the long and the short of it is that after much letter writing and discussion on the phone Baumatic oh so kinldy agreed to replace our machine for BDW10 for what I think was £80.
This happened in March 2004, it took two visits as their engineer made such a bodge of the original install (only three legs screwed down to the floor, unit not in line with the rest of kitchen)
Everything has been fine since…….until now.
Now the door tensioner mechanism has failed, the door now hangs on a downward slope when open, a piece of plastic below the door has fallen off, the door no longer stays shut and even when wedged shut it leaks from either the top or bottom.
Baumatic are now coming out fix the problem on Monday for the fee of £70.
Strangely, when I brought a tumble dryer the other month it wasn’t a Baumatic, and the new fridge/freezer I am about to buy won’t be either.
I wouldn’t have another Baumatic appliance unless it was free…..and then I would have to think about it.
Feel better for getting all that out 🙂

Baumatic eh 🙄
A good customer of mine actually decided (as she was getting a new kitchen fitted next summer) not to have her Neff dishwasher repaired as she felt it had run its term (15 yrs) and decided to replace it with a Baumatic BDW2W 😕 She asked me to disconnect her old machine and install the new Baumatic in it’s place 🙁
I dutyfully did as requested and just couldn’t help but wonder at the build quality of the new Baumatic :rotfl:
The adjustable rear feet that wouldn’t adjust? the door adjustable tension wires? The Programme Knob that fell off each time you opened the door? The piece of sticky tape they supplied to stick on the underside of the worktop? The front adjusting feet that move less than 1/2 inch?…I could go on 😕
When I politely asked my customer “Why the hell did you buy this rubbish?” she simply replied “….because it was the cheapest we could find and we will be dumping it in the skip next summer anyway!”
But I expect a BDW10 is a different beast anyway? :rotl:
