This is prompted by Goatboy’s recent post in Labour rates.
I use the thin ones now because I found so many laminateds split and sticking in their holders in less time than it takes to wear down the thin ones.
Mind you, I’m asking myself if I shouldn’t have checked the pump/sump more thoroughly each time I found brushes split.

I went back to the 161460 thin brush about six months ago. The laminated ones were burning out for fun, regardless of pumps.

We used to ask the customer how much washing they did, and fit the black ones if it was only a couple of washes a week. But we end up fitting so few black ones, we just phased them out eventually.I’ve had 1 or 2 splitting white ones, but not that many. Not enough for me to try some other brushes.
What I do see, is alot of burnt out armatures because of non-gen brushes, fitted by DIY tards!! 😕

Hotpoint had a problem about a year back with Lam brushes.. They changed supplier (you can tell the difference by th holder which is “off” white.. These burn up to buggary ! They are back with origional supplier now and all seems well.

I never changed over from the black brushes because of the number of split laminated ones I found.

I have always just used the white ones on 1200 spin machines and black ones on the slower spin models.

There was a Hotpoint Technical Bulletin about this about 8 years or so ago. Any machine with digital controls should have Lam brushes as the brushes soak up some of the radio interference.
I only ever use laminated brushes and have only ever notice a problem with short brush life when there is a blocked or faulty drain pump. If the brushes are burned, I explain to the customer my reason for changing the drain pump and won’t give a gtee on the repair unless a new pump is fitted.

I had a bad batch of laminated about 9 months ago. When they failed(as most of them did),they left a brown mark down the side.
I still use laminated due to the short life of the thin ones.
Spin inhibit on newer M/C’s should have stopped pumps causing carbon problems.

Fit 10 to 15 sets a week, had severe problmes for over 12 months, last six months the white holder( original) ones have been fine.

161460 now obsolete – get ’em while you can.
Another cunning ploy by Hotpoint perhaps? Ensure that the remaining GEC motors get cooked by the awful 1600474…….
Or am I being paranoid?
