Recently moved house. Had a Smeg A2 in last house and loved it. Glad to see there was one already fitted in my new kitchen. Unfortunately, the convection Fan doesn’t work so I’m using the electric element only which I don’t like. I took the oven panels out to get at the fan but can’t see why it won’t turn (probably need to get to the rear, but this is difficult).

Also, one of the burners on the gas hob will not stay lit after I let go the corresponding knob.

Does anyone have any experience of either of these problems and what is needed to resolve them (including est. cost). I wasn’t looking at buying a new one just yet.

    Hope someone can help.

    Many thanks in anticipation.

Ah, once I read it again…

I assume that you mean the fan for the fan oven isn’t working? Convection cooking uses no fan and relies instead on the natural circulation of air within the cavity.

Next, are you sure it’s the fan that’s not running as it would be far more likely to be the element that has failed.

The hob needs a thermocouple or the thermocouple better earthed to repair methinks.

In all honesty, for an A2, since you’re not that sure of how to access the areas you have to (plus it’s gas) as you will need to access from the rear to get tot he fan, I’d strongly recommend that you get an engineer to do this for you.

If it was my company doing the job you’d be looking at about £90-140 depending on fan motor or element and whether the thermocouple needed changed or not.

Thanks for reply. I understand your observation on the termocouple.

I’ll try and be clearer regards the main fan problem.

The fan that isn’t working is the fan in the centre of the main oven facing you as you open the door (used in fan assisted cooking). The other fan (that you hear when cooking regardless of mode) appears to be working ok.

I think the oven is approx. 5 years old.

    Any and all help appreciated.

Yes new thermocouple comes with an earth wire which you attach to any existing self tapper out of range of any live components.
For your info the thermocouple will have to be fitted by a corgi engineer even though no gas joints will be broken. Check repairs@
