ModeratorI realise I may be doing this bloke a disservice, and the fault may lie higher up the chain. One of the reasons I work on my own is the ability to ‘use my initiative’ or in good old Lancashire terms, “use yer common sense”.
I have aquired the majority of my spares for well over 10 years now from DS Supplies in Stoke, they had a unit nearby in Oldham for a few years but the council priced them out. 😥 When they retrenched to Stoke, many years ago, I gave them a garage key and using their own drivers delivered 3 times a week. I have got to know them all very well and this set up worked fine. Due to several local traders closing down, they decided to use third party delivery methods, via Lynx, which in most cases meant I was down to once a week delivery, orders not left despite instructions to leave in garage, parts damaged on a regular basis etc. After the Sibson meeting in Sept, I started to use Masterpart as well as DS Supplies. Masterpart deliveries in this area a via Initial City Link and if I am not in they have always followed instructions to leave parts in the garage, If I am at home they knock on the door and I sign for the delivery, as happened just yesterday. It now transpires that due to numerous complaints, DS Supplies have also started to use Initial City Link for their deliveries. When I got home this evening I had a card through the door from City Link, signed by the same driver who has delivered all my Masterpart orders and who I spoke to only the day before, I quote ” cannot deliver this one but have left another in the garage”.He had left a single door handle from Masterpart in the garage and taken the larger order from DS Supplies away with him. When I rang DS Supplies they said the instructions were “to leave it safe”.
Now I ask you , is that using your common sense or just plain daft.

I arrived home from a job the other day to find my regular Pegasus lorry outside but not with the regular driver, who takes the parcels to the hotel next door if I’m out. This time it was a woman driver, who told me she had left the parcel at my back door 😯 but could I still sign for it. My cottage does not have a back door but the parcel was on the gravel path under the kitchen window.
When I order from Screwfix the stuff is usually just left on the front door step. At one time the driver must have had a key that fitted my workshop as he used to unlock the door, put my parcel inside and leave the door unlocked 👿 . The first couple of times this happened I thought I must have left the place unlocked but the third time I changed the lock.November 23, 2005 at 8:22 am #155244Martin

Oh 😡 Don’t get me going!!1
Couple of weeks ago, was out all day while an order was delivered by DHL from Connect.
They have left a card in the past (my shop is closed now), but this time there wasn’t one. Sends my missus up to their depot (where I’d tracked it to), and she was told due to a problem with the address THEY’D SENT IT BACK????Why? our house is the same address as the shop, just a different letterbox.
Registered a complaint with DHL got nowhere.
(Monday)Let Connect know about it, girk on phone says I’ll register a complaint and reorder it for you
(Thursday) Nothing arrived yet. Ring Connect. Oh we’re about a week behind with complaints…..would you like me to cancel the original and reorder the parts. Considering one part had been out of stock for ages, why not, that’d be jolly nice of you!!!! 👿TOnyC
