ParticipantHi
My former landlord has kept my £400 deposit due to alleged damage to the Arrow ceramic hob. I had to vacate the house quite quickly and did not clean it too well. The hob is said to have been replaced. The only cleaning method used is, according to my former landlord, “different cleaning agents”. She has appearently not used a hob scraper. I have not done something strange and it was only stains from burnt in food on the hob.
I wonder if it is possible to stain a ceramic hob permanently with food?
I also wonder if it is possible to recoat the ceramic of a hob, if it is stained (or broken or whatsoever).
I have tried hard to find a contact number to Arrow. I even have manuals from other Arrow products, but there are no information about the company.
I would really appreciate some help
Best regards
Pelle

Tricky one this. It is possible in theory to permanently damage a ceramic glass hob depending on what was spilt on it.
The only sure way is to ask for a written report from the landlord stating his case, you may well have to pay someone yourself to go and check independently as well.
Or better still, offer to go back there and clean it 😉
Arrow is part of Gunkol, a Turkish manufacturer aslo known as Teba.

Hi
Thank you very much for the answer. Unfortunately, the hob is already exchanged and despite several requests, I have not seen copies of receipts. I have asked to get access to the old hob but have not received an answer to that request yet.
When you write “possible in theory” I guess that you mean that it is not too common during normal use. I want to have at least an educated guess about how probable it is that I have permanently (and severely) stained the hob. A friend of mine, who did research on ceramic glass, said that it is impossible in theory but possible in practice. 😆 But he tried hard by melting sugar on it etc. (as I understand it, the chemical reactions are not fully understood).
Best regards

Sugar was my “in theory” reasoning as I have heard of permanent damage being caused by people who make jam for instance and let it boil over. I’ve never actually seen the result of this though.

Thank you very much for your answers
I have not used sugar at all in my cooking. Salt can also stain it according to my friend, but that is not too much food were salt is the major ingredient. 😉
By the way, I’ve got the answer from a supplier of Arrow that Teba is bankrupt.
Cheers
