Hi i’m new to this forum i have always been interested and fascinated how washers are repaired sometimes when we have had a washer leak or something has stopped working and it has just been a simple problem, but this washer we have had for a year is proving to be a nightmare, engineers have been out several times since it has been delivered and now the warrantee is out of date, it’s a diplomat APM8722 washer dryer the integrated type, everytime the engineer has visited he has mentioned the round sensor at the top of the machine has had it’s pipe blocked and a simple blow through has sorted this out, but now the machine refuses to do any programs, and sometimes the timer skips to 01 minutes left, all it wants to do is pump out and refill thats all, it does this twice with the drum moving minimally then seems to stop, i’m not sure waht is wrong it seems more complicated this time but then again could just be as simple to fix, i have tried the obvious and have made sure the pipe is clear for the round sensor, what could be wrong what better place to ask than a forum of experts i thought, thanks in advance an annoyed laundarette user.

This is a Merloni-built appliance, which you have paid quite a premium on! Your current problem points to the water level switch actually being faulty this time – level control not functioning, but flood protection level is.

MFI is one of the more reasonable suppliers; it would certainly be worth contacting them pointing out the tale of woe to date and seeing if a discretionary service call could be made. If that fails, click the link at the bottom of the post for a UKW engineer.

Hi thanks for the reply i really am grateful, sounds typical what you said, the damn pipe has blocked several times & i guess this was the last time it could cope with this happening, could you tell me as you know a fair amount & you know what you are talking about…are these machines reliable or is my case just a bit of bad luck, as i have never had a diplomat washer before, also have the company you mention (before it was labeled diplomat) got a good reputation for reliable appliances.

thanks for your advice, i did exactly what you mentioned, phoned extracare to see what the status of my manufacturers warranty was, & i called on the day it was due to run out, i explained about the problems we have had with it, then they said they would send an engineer free of charge wednesday which was fair of them.

    all the best

    Perfect timing then….. 😀 .
These machines are largely found as freestanding appliances, badged as Servis. A check back in the forum will give some idea of the problems people face. TBH, mechanically they are reasonably robust – it’s the control circuits that seem to suffer – computer boards seem to be the real weak spot.

It’s always a problem with buying a “branded” appliance – you don’t always know what you are getting. Next time, stick to a name you recognise.
