I’ve got one of these and for as long as we’ve had it it’s been fairly noisy when the fans at the back are on. We just thought this was the way it was, and have got quite used to it (although at times it can sound like a Hercules coming in to land)

Anyway, a SMEG engineer was round for a dishwasher repair and noticed the oven was loud – he said it was becasue the fans were loose, and they needed tightening. Is this something I can do, or does it need an engineer?

I ask because SMEG recommended an engineer to change the elements when they blew, something I did myself (it was pretty straightforward) with advice and help from this forum. So do I really need an engineer, or is that what they always say?

    cheers

If it is just the fans, then it can be done from behind the panel inside the oven just the same as where the elements are. Not heard of that problem myself though. More likely noisy fan motors which need changing, a bit more of a professional job that one.

I have just bought a smeg b72mfx5 and as soon as i switched the lower oven on the fan came on and as it built up speed was fairly quiet but as it reached full speed it sounded like a cross between a diesel generator and a spitfire. I would be interested in any explanations for your problem as it may be similar to mine. At the moment the noise is so loud that I can’t hold a conversation in the kitchen.
I will get a smeg engineer out and will update this site afterwards 💡

A bump for this: I’ve got the fans out – what should I look for to see if the bearings are loose? I can’t feel any free play, but I might be wiggling the wrong bit (as the bishop said to actress)
