My washing machine died with a loud bang. I found the fuse blown in the main power board. I have replaced this. Now the machine lights up properly. However when I attempt to do a wash, the water fills for about a second and then stops. It does this three times before the machine gives up and just beeps.

I followed the procedure for getting fault codes from this forum. (Hold wash temp down and then the power button). I get the following lights from the top row:

    0000 0100

0001 0000 with the high and low water level lights on also.

    Can anybody help?

First one doesn’t appear to be a valid fault code, second one suggests a problem with the display board………

However…… What went “Bang”? If the boards are lighting up and programming, I’d be tempted to check the motor, especially as the motor should agitate during fill – if it doesn’t, that’s a fault.

Sounds like the fuse went because of a leaking Motor control module display will be ok fault code has been read wrong
Only other reason for the fuse to go is a faulty pump 36 Ohm which blows the triac and leaves the pump live when machine is off (very sore as you cut your arm on the door as well) or short on lid switch harness later models

    Thanks for your suggestions.

I found the brown wire to the pump is live when the machine is off as FastandPro suggested. Do I assume the triac is blown as proposed by FastandPro, as the pump still works when I set the washing machine to spin (but no spin of course)?

The pump has a resistance of 32 ohms. I had a service guy come and repair the washing machine some years ago when the main power board died. He blamed the pump for causing this to happen and replaced the pump when he replaced the board. I still have the old pump which also has a resistance of 32ohm. When I replace the triac, should I also replace the pump?

ps I double checked the fault codes and they were as I said:
00000 100 with the low water light lit and
00010 000 with high and low water level lit.

Re: Fisher & Paykel Smart drive 501 washing machine

    Hi Rabbit,
Bad news – first code is a comms error – can be display board or motor control board. The second one is a sequencing error, seemingly more likely to be a display board fault if I read things correctly (F+P or Kiwi will soon tell me if I’m wrong). So – you’ve got a 50/50 on one of two expensive components – time for some pro help I think….

Unplug and mesure resistance from the fuse to the brown wire if its 1to 3 ohms the triacs (BT 136)gone you may have an early machine without the plug on the pump and two wires instead they blow modules as the wires are two close tgether try two get a plug from an old machine if thats the case also check the wire to the pump is not touching the cabinet base and shorting .

You have two read the fault code again not the low and high water level the slow and hold Spin is the correct one
