    Dear all,

We have had our current built in slimline dishwasher for just over 3 years (Zanussi ZT-485) we have never liked this model it has never cleaned well and now has started to have failures of all the plastic items within the wash area.

Items that have been replaced are new plastic & gauze filter that clips in the bottom and a new bottom rotor arm.

Items that need replacing now are new bottom filter (the big one), new bottom basket, its going rusty, 8 new bottom wheels, they have ALL failed, and a new top green pipe that takes water to the top rotor.

We have always filled up the operating levels when required and our previous dishwasher (also a Zanussi) lasted 4 years before we had any problems!!!!

It also deposited a small amount of water on the floor the other day whilst in use, i’m afraid it has got to go!!!!!!

I am looking for a recomendation for a Good replacement, we only have space for a slimline dishwasher WE CANNOT FIT IN A FULL SIZE ONE !!!!

NO REALLY UNLESS WE SPEND THOUSANDS REDESIGNING THE KITCHEN!!

We ae also looking for someone to fit it in the South Leamington / Gaydon Area.(Warwickshire)

I have looked around the web and Bosch and Miele seem to get good reviews but i’m not totally sure.

The dishwasher currently has a brown door over the front of it to match the existing units, but I have no problems about getting rid of that if it makes the selection easier, so I don’t really mind if its no a built in unit, as long as it doesn’t protrude out the front, and I don’t mind if its a stainless steel front either as it would match all our other stainless equipment

If anyone can give me some free advice on a model and a good qualified fitter that would be greatly appreciated.

By the way if the dishwasher had a good long warranty that would help too, as I will not shell out more money after the fitting!!

    Regards

    Mark

    How about this one?

Neff is the built-in wing of Bosch, so good quality appliances.

Why! oh! why! do so many here in the UK when deciding that they ‘need’ an automatic dishwasher, choose to fit a ‘slimline’ model instead of what the majority choose?……….”We don’t have the S-P-A-C-E” is the answer every time 🙄

If however one took time to fully access the endless possibilities of even the tiniest of kitchens, with a little ‘tweak’ here and a ‘shoehorn’ there, a space to fit a full size dishwasher is not a problem!

Existing kitchen cabinets can be altered (trimmed and repositioned) very easily indeed. (Not a lot of folks realise that fact?) Most kitchen units after all are just lumps of MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) that can be easily removed, cut and refitted for very little cost. New smaller door/drawer panels fitted in order to accomodate the full sized gadget!

Besides which (and a reminder, it is just my opinion here after all 😉 ) even for a family of just 2 or 3 people, a slimline (45cms) dishwasher is totally and utterly incapable of washing the dishes left over from a full 3 course Sunday lunch of pots, pans, plates, cutlery, dishes and glasses!!!!

Complete waste of kitchen space they are……….(IMHO) 👿

Do you not find that after YOUR Sunday lunch (even when the slimline is working as it should) there are still loads of things that could be put in the dishwasher BUT there’s no room left?…..

…just leave the rest ’til tomorrow morning 8)

I have a Bosch slimline and for my family of three it is perfectly adequate for the job 😀

Totally agree with Martin on this one.

Slimline dishwashers are a pain in the backside. As Martin said the average kitchen can quite easily be modified to accept a full size (60cm) dishwasher.

You will fit far more in, without cramming more than is reasonable in. Therefore getting better wash results. 😉

    Thanks for the reply Martin,

I purposely made certain comments in my post in capitals as I realised someone would not give me constructive advice? Ho hum… 😥

For the record, We inherited the kitchen design from the builder, we had no say in the matter, the dishwasher is sandwiched between the cooker and the sink unit. There is AND I REPEAT no way we can alter the layout we are stuck with what we have, I do admit I have had full size ones before and yes they are by far the best, but, I can’t do anything about what I have, unless of course you are prepared to chip in to help financially and COMPLETELY redesign my kitchen? and I am serious, there is no room, I can send you a plan if you like?

As for being able to fit in the 3 course sunday lunch, yes I agree, you can’t fit it in, thats why we have 2 runs at it, trust me its still easier sipping a nice cold glass of after dinner Chardonnay than doing 2 loads of dishes!!

Now for some constructive comments, (and hopefully the end of a flame war)

    David,

Thx for the reply we are also a family of 3 and after checking the dimensions with my local branch of Currys and checking the installation instructions in the back of the manual for the Zanussi I really think I can remove the old one myself and refit a new stand alone one by trimming the bottom kick plate.

Currys have all their Bosch dishwashers on offer at the moment with free delivery, (if you order through the store they will match the Currys internet price) so I may go down that route, they also have 2 years warranty as standard so now need for an extra warranty.

Re: Replacement Slimline Dishwasher – Recomendations?

Just so that you can get an indication of my kitchen space, i have the following layout

Door – Built in Fridge/Freezer- 450 wide unit (Corner of room) 450 wide unit – Built in cooker – Built in slimline dishwasher (Corner of room) Double sink unit- Built in Washing machine – Door

The 4th wall has a long radiator on it with a small table and 2 chairs,

So, without completely redesigning the kitchen and moving lots of units at great cost any advice as to how I can fit a full size unit in?, by the way the built in cooker has a hob also built in with a stainless steel extractor above which exhaust through the wall..

Oh and a further note, I have designed several kitchens for people in the past and did by far a better job than the builders did here (as I’m a fully qualified draughtsman with an HNC) bully for me!

Re: Replacement Slimline Dishwasher – Recomendations?

They are all the same basic units – choose your extras. As is the NEFF integrated machine I linked for you. The trade generally like Bosch as a well made appliance with no major servicing issues. 2 year warranty is popular, spares are generally easily sourced when required and mostly sensibly priced.

Take your pick and buy. 😀

Even the consumer magazine Which magazine has just announced that according to them ” Bosch is best ” which can be seen here http://tinyurl.com/8gud2 on the front page 😉

Don’t mention it Mark, my pleasure 🙂

Incidentally, the last 3 Bosch machines on your list are almost identical in their overall performance and internal workings. The first model ( the SRS53C0GB) is a scaled down version with less of the frills (i.e. Sound insulation, shelf/racking options and no automatic wash control sensing) than the others. However it does the same job in a shorter overall wash-time than the rest, which is favourite I reckon in order to clear those Sunday Roast dishes in half the time!

Oh! one more thing…the silver/stainless fronted machines show all the fingermarks up beautifully. So you’ll be forever battling to keep it looking clean in a busy kitchen, therefore best stick to a white one I reckon 😉

A couple of coats of Johnsons baby oil applied liberally with cotton wool when first unpacked should do the trick then a top up coat about every four weeks. Got this one from a customer ” much better than all those thingy me bobs you can buy in the supermarket” 😀
