ParticipantHi all
Had some excellent advice from UKW a few months ago in replacing the element in this machine and all went well. Recently a new fault has occurred and hoping for some advice on this. Here are the symptoms…The 6100 has 4 programmes. In all except 4 (quick rinse) the programmer starts the cycle but does not advance beyond the first ‘notch’, so it fills and and just runs continuously. No heating and the dispenser remains shut. Curiously, the programmer advances fine in prog 4 which completes normally in a few minutes. I guess either the programmer mechanism is faulty (however it seems fine in prog 4) or something is not triggering it in the main wash cycles. I suspected the element again but the programmer doesn’t actually reach the point where this would normally be switched on. I haven’t yet had it apart to check for poor connections etc in case that’s barking up the wrong tree! Any questions or advice on this as ever, gratefully received.
Many thanks

Heat is the most likely culprit. The “Rapide” programme and the “Pre-wash” run against time, the others rely on the timer stopping for heat and being re-started by the thermostat completing the circuit upon reaching temperature.
Check element, thermostat operation and door wiring. If all OK you are probably looking at the timer. Given the age of the machine and the expense of the the timer you may well be best considering replacement. However, carry out all tests first and report back.
BTW, if the replacement element has failed, you need to check fill levels and whther or not the machine is circulating properly – rotor opeartaion is critical on dishwashers.
Power off for all internal investigations,
Regarsd,

Thanks for those replies. I am suspecting the timer even more. Yesterday afternoon before your reply I removed the door top panel and checked the wiring to the timer. I removed the timer and gave a squirt of wd40 and then did a test run in prog 2. It worked! However later my wife used it and again the timer stopped moving after the initial click, so after a while she moved it manually around a click or two and the programme then continued and completed normally, heating etc. I guess this suggests the element is ok, so I’ll check the rest of the door wiring next as you kindly advise. Is that a case of undoing the remaining stainless cover screws around the edge and lifting the cover away, complete with the dispenser unit?
If the timer is worn out, any idea of price/availability. I agree, if expensive might be best to replace the appliance. Pity for what might be the sake of a dodgy connection in the timer, but strongly suspect that dismantling it will result in a pile of unidentifiable bits!
Thanks again, any further info gratefully received.

There are two types of timer used on this model, one is made by Copreci (circa £35) and the other Eaton (circa £75).
When you check the door leads, check that at the same time for a more accurate price, let’s hope it’s the Copreci 😀

Thanks, here’s the latest. I took the timer right out and removed the door cover. The timer is a Siebe, very strange. Anyway the wiring seemed ok visually so I really suspected the timer of a bad contact or stiffness just after the start point. I figured it’s do or die with the timer so took it to the workshop and this time really soused it with wd40, shook and tapped it, repeatedly turned the knob and anything else that might help free things up and clean it. Then I shook the wd40 out and lubed it all with light oil anywhere I could get a drop or two in. Not a textbook repair, but worth a try I thought.
Having rebuilt the machine the test run went perfectly, in fact it seemed to go through the first stages quicker than normal (before it was faulty) which may mean it was getting progressively worse. It’s just run again with no problems. It is possible that the fault was wiring and I’ve corrected it just by disturbing things. I guess an internal break will probably show up again soon, but I hope it was just a stuck or dirty timer and it’s ok now, time will tell! If it does come to a new timer, I wonder if the Copreci is the same as the Siebe. Meanwhile, thanks for all your help.

Thanks a bunch iandms. Followed your method on the timer revival and bingo, £45 saved. I didn’t fiddle with any wiring, so its not a case of disturbing it. It is a copreci, wich qer won’t repair any more.
Thanks again.
