I have an AEG Favourit 420. I am a novice. The dishwasher behaves erratically; sometimes it goes through a full cycle but in other instances it stops at various points. It appears that the inlet water does not operate. I have checked the hose etc. The ‘ping pong ball’ which I understand is part of a leak protection arrangement has been lost (presumably it was not put back after one of the filter cleaning operations). I tilted the dishwasher and some water came out and then it started filling with water but is still stops at some point in the cycle. Do you think replacing the float will solve the problem or it needs a further examination?

I think it needs further examination 😉
It appears to be leaking from somewhere and filling the base activating the flood protection. Hence it worked after you emptied some out.
Power off please if examining yourslf :zap:
Or you may be better off asking an engineer, check the repairs@ link in my signature 🙂
