ParticipantI’m looking to replace our cr@ppy Creda built-under single oven with something a little more up-market.
Having bought a Miele washing machine, I’d love one of theirs, but don’t feel that the budget will stretch that far. I’ve been looking at the Neff U1744 double oven and the B1644 single oven and I just can’t make my mind up.
I like the extra flexibility afforded by the double oven but like the idea of the extra functions of the single (such as bottom heat and halogen lights). I’m also concerned that the smaller main oven size of the U1744 might be a pain.
I’d like any views, not just of these two ovens, but also the relative merits of single-vs-double built-under ovens. If there are other models I should be considering, I’d like to know, too (as long as they’re no more expensive).
Oh, yeah, I’m a techno-freak, too, by the way. You’re unlikely to hear me say that I won’t use a feature!
Ta, in advance…

It’s a minefield trying to work out what to buy, where the value lies and if the product really matches up to the hype surrounding the advertisements.
The best advice I could give you is that you get what you pay for, if you want cheap, buy cheap, having said that all that glitters is not gold, perhaps you can see where we are heading.
There are a couple of market leaders in quality, the rest are much of a muchness. Go to an upmarket supplier (that rules out most sheds lol) and feel the quality not the price. I reckon if you consider the long term view then its worth paying more. Try http://www.cda-europe.com based in Nottingham, for value.

I think my question was more around the relative merits of built-under double vs. single ovens, to be honest. The two Neff ovens I listed being examples that I was considering.
I’ve got no problem buying quality (although, as I suggested, I just don’t think I can stretch to Miele quality, as much as I’d like to).

One of the biggest problems customers complain of from my own experience with single cavity built in ovens is the inability to use the grill when the oven is in use. This really comes down to family size I guess 😉
If you are single or a couple I think a single oven will suit most of your needs, any kids and I’d go for the double 🙂
