I know this is an old machine, and I’m only postponing the inevitable purchase of a new machine, but:

My Diplomat 8221 has stuck midcycle. There’s water in the bottom of the machine, but when you try restart it, nothing happens.

I have had an engineer round in the past when this has happened (it happens every couple of months now), and it only takes seconds to fix, but I can’t remember how it was done.

I’m trying to take the panel off the door, but am finding that impossible! I’ve undone the only two screws but can’t seem to remove the decorative panel for love nor money.

As you can tell, I’m crap at DIY, so any help guys?

Up at the top of the door there is a small slot on either side of the fascia. A special key is used in these to release the door from it’s top brackets.

You could try it with a small flat screwdriver if you are careful.

Power off please before attempting anything.

Failling that you can try Repairs@ for a local engineer to do this for you.

This is a Smeg built appliance and is probably worth repairing, barring any major component fault (motor, PCB).

Ok, I give up. I’ll get someone around. Thanks for the info: I’ll look slightly more kindly towards the machine now that I know it was once good!

The guys at repairs@… there will be the traditional call out charge etc I presume?

I should imagine so, we all have to earn our crust 😉

You should be able to get a price over the phone before booking a call.

Different companies will work to different systems. Some charge a flat rate, others charge per designated time period (e.g. per 1/2 hour). Ask what the rates are before you confirm any appointment.
