This reminds me of a job I did a couple of years ago. One day I was offered a Zanussi machine for spares. I collected it then went off to the next call, which turned out to be the same model of Zanussi. I diagnosed this as having a timer fault and offered the customer the secondhand timer from the spares machine. I duly removed the spare timer from the scrap machine and fitted it to the customers appliance and the fault appeared to be cured. When I later stripped the spares machine I found its heater had melted the tub and I could not see any evidence of a problem with the pressure switch system. As always when I fitted the timer, I explained that I cannot test it fully without standing watching the machine for hours so they need to keep an eye on it the first few times they use it. Fortunately the timer behaved itself perfectly.
