What can I say. 😳 I am honoured indeed to join your merry band. I do hope that I live up to expectations. I will do my best to uphold the ‘mood and tone ‘ of this forum. I have been a long time member on other forums, mainly Ntl related, one that has always been moderated on very similar lines to this, and one on which the mods often reacted in the most inappropriate way 😥 .
As this is my first venture into being a mod, on second thoughts, no it isn’t. In the 60’s I had a Lambretta and all the gear, bought my clothes mail order from Carnaby St etc.
As this is my second incarnation as a Mod I hope to be able to count on your help in feeling my way round. Thanks once again.
Jim.

Yeah, it’s fun this is, the whole moderation thing. Thankless task, but there you go, such is our lot in life I guess.
As I’ve said before I’m a great believer in self-moderation, which assumes that people are bright enough to know when to shut it. Sadly that’s not always the case and a gentle nudge is sometimes required and, if that doesn’t work, a swift kick to the goolies often accomplishes the mission. It doesn’t make you popular, but it keeps the ship on course.
Welcome aboard Jim, have fun and enjoy it all.

To be fair, we actually do very little “moderating”. It’s more of a nudge and a push and some discreet editing from time to time. Unless you’re Softus, of course :rolls: .
Oh, and you do get to tell Gegsy off. For all the good it does…… And let off steam……. The Yurtesen thread is most educational………….
Welcome aboard Jim,
Chris.

KeymasterRight, Softus deserved all he got…
He was a total twat that was out to cause trouble and I proved that in private emails without doubt. He was trying to make out that he was a “noobie”, no feckin’ way was he.
He knew how to analyse and disect a post as well as a mail which showed that he had considerable experience in dealing with web posts as well as mailing lists, probably newsgroups as well as that’s the sorta shit I expect there, not here.
He got blasted off and he didn’t like it. I can’t say that my heart bleeds.

That gave me some of the best laughes I’ve had in years, I followed it from the start, when it was initially a timer fault, before the bearing saga that almost had Martin reaching for the Valium. 🙂

Ah yes – now read “Common Sense” in here for the bit that didn’t make the front pages……….
And Yes, Softus was a twat.
Chris.

Hi Jim,
Welcome aboard 😀
One of the perks of being a moderator is that you qualify for for the free drinks at all UKW meetings.
Just do what we all do and put them on Kevins room. :rotfl:

Not forgetting Mark (the Nerk) Newnham who tried to get his sodding Zanussi pump working in the USA 🙄

Welcome amongst us Jim, you’ll have lots of fun I’m sure rubbing shoulders with claymore wielding Scots, Cavemen, flying Penguins, goats and old sea dogs :martin:
From knackered bearings to pink dishwashers you will have a lot to keep an eye on for damn sure 😉
Enjoy mate!
Regards
Martin

I really must apologise, am I the only one who has unintentionally edited a post when I intending to quote. 😳 The buttons are so close together and I’m sure the edit button is roughly in the position that the quote button was before Monday. ( At least thats my excuse)
Must try and stop doing three jobs at once.
I promise to try harder.

Yeah, the buttons will have moved due to the extra one’s there 🙂
Don’t wory about it too much, it’s not unknown for two mods to delete both of two duplicates at the same time leaving none ! 😳 😳

No worries Jim 🙂
I think you refer to editing my post regarding VAT/private use? Not a problem, but now that you can moderate you can also correct your mistake if you wish?….go right ahead 😀
