ParticipantWell as the Festive Season approaches the Yuletide Spirit and all that, very often means the tips are more frequent and varied. Aside from the odd couple of quid handed you as you leave the house and a harty “Have a drink on me!” Christmas is a great time for receiving a varying array of ‘tips’. Last Friday I was handed a bottle of Jacobs Creek, a few quid in tips yesterday and today two dozen home-made mince pies…very nice!
Over the years I have been given things like a sacks of spuds, apples, homemade wine, a Christmas tree and even a Microwave Oven!
Which prompted me to ask you guys out there, what was the most unusual gratuity you have received from a grateful customer?

I don’t get tips 🙁 I must look like too much of a scally!
What I do get, is every single biddy running her hand through my hair and saying…
“Isn’t it lovely hair? I bet all the girls love it!”
“Errrr, just the girls over 65 actually!”
:eeek:

Not Christmas related but an elderly customer gave me some power tools he had been given as a free gift when ordering a load of mail order items. There is a drill, an orbital sander and various drill bits etc. Unfortunately he has not yet paid the £86 bill and he’s now in hospital. 🙁

I have had some excellent trout from a keen fisherman, many bottles of wine etc, one last week was out of the ordinary. I had a call from one of my Asian customers, have done the families machines for years. I actually went to this machine and advised them to get Hotpoint in as it was under 5 years old, WMA with bearings shot. Hotpoint went with the drum but the engineer refused to do the repair because of a small amount of mice droppings on the floor behind the machine. Having worked for several years in my youth on a farm, I can take things like this in my stride, especially when I am being paid. 😉 It is rare to get any tips from people in this area but I was given a £10.00 tip and a bar of Norwegian chocolate 8) . very nice it was too.

Not so much of tip – more a gift.
Simple brush job on a Zan zwf1020 about 3 weeks ago. Around the corner from me but could never seem to fit it in. So went around about 6pm one Friday, did the job.. customer over the moon. Told them it’s starting to get noisy, you need the bearing replaced and sooner rather than later.
Oh we’ll run the appliance until we leave. We’re moving with our job as soon as the house we want becomes free. “Will it last to late April early May?” Should do (only two of em..) Shame I said it’s in good nick.
Yesterday, out of the blue she calls back. We’re leaving Friday morning, rental property has become vacant early, if you want the machine collect today or it’s scrap. Picked it up last night. This evening, cleaned boot, service wash, and did two loads of washing in it. New set of bearings on order. Machine already sold to new Hair Saloon opening Tue. Happy boy 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
