I’m new to dishwashers, having inherited our ADP8332 when we bought our house recently. We understand it’s about 18 months old.

Several weeks ago I inadvertently left the salt cap in the bottom of the dishwasher for a few washes after refilling the salt. However the machine has been functioning OK since then.

We normally run the dishwasher overnight. Yesterday morning it was beeping, with the Start and Pre-Wash buttons flashing, and there was a small pool of water on the floor. I mopped this up, switched off and on again and the lights went off.

Out of foolish curiosity, I then started another cycle. The machine seemed to fill OK, then started clicking at the point when my wife (who’s more attentive than me) reckons it would normally pump. About 20 minutes later there was a very large puddle on the floor. She turned off the isolator on the inbound pipes but water continued to escape for a while. The water appeared to be coming from the bottom of the machine. I assume it may have dripped from the lowest point rather than the source of the machine.

Given the above symptoms, is it a fair bet that the pump is not working? Could the salt dispenser error be indirectly to blame? I’m told by someone I trust that dishwashers are relatively simple to fix and I’d prefer not to call out an engineer if possible. Any ideas about what to check first would be welcome.

    Thanks,
    Andrew (Newbie)

I should have mentioned that between the two cycles I removed and cleaned the filter, which looked a bit clogged.

It’s leaking into the base. The base will be full of water and may well be shorting out the wash pump.

Before working on your appliance please disconnect it from the wall socket.
