The drum on my Candy C50 tumble dryer has stopped rotating; timer and heater are both still functioning. If I remove the belt from the motor drive shaft, removing the load, the motor runs, it appears to have a very much reduced torque.
What has caused this to happen, can I get a replacement motor/brushes, and is it financially viable?
I can manually rotate the drum and the motor drive shaft, neither is particularly stiff.
Yes, of course you’re right, induction motor!!
I changed the mains suppression capacitor about two months ago after it blew (in half) I didn’t notice any damage to it this time (nothing obvious).
