ParticipantIs everyone aware that, if the Rateable Value of your business premises
is below £15000.00, you are entitled to a 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} rebate off your Rate Bill.We only found this out by pure chance a few weeks ago. We phoned our Local Authority to enquire if this was correct an was assured it was, it has been available since April 1st. this year (2005). The rating Authority were supposed to notify all Business Ratepayers but it appears ours did not. I requested a claim form, which was completed and returned and we have just banked the refund cheque.
We have a feeling we were not the only business in the area who were in the dark about this one, I have asked a few businesses in our area and they were unaware of the relief.
So check your Business Rate demand and if there has been no reduction
this year get on the blower to get them to behave. It appears you have to apply for it each April.

Shanes right!!!
And I found out purely by chance on an unrelated matter a few months ago looking at a site regarding business rates.
Funnily enough we never got a letter from the local council informing us we were entitled to a rebate either

Like Tony & Shane there are probably thousands of business ratepayers who are completely unaware that the Goverment has directed local authorites to cut rate bills to business ratepayers. There are exceptions to who can claim this rebate and your local authority will have the terms and conditions which apply. If you pay rates on other business properties you need to be careful as the last thing you would want is to be paying any funds back. We have been claiming a 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} rebate for over the last year now and this saving is one of few that the goverment has extended us.
Mind you you can see why the local councils have not made to much noise about this can’t you. -
