Not so much an inquiry as a warning.
Got a replacement module in post this am and went to job round the corner to wrestle with machine.(Ariston AWD12UK, hoses and mains lead stretch behind built in dishwasher, foot falls off and cabinet scratches parquet flooring etc. etc.) Decided to make one last check before fitting replacement module to see that I hadn’t inadvertently plugged the timer plug on the wrong way round on last visit. Discovered that timer edge is keyed but plug is not. Left it on with wires sticking out towards cabinet and set to spin. Light display was different to what I had seen at last visit.
Decided nonchalantly to try plug other way round…………switch on, BANG ❗ , smell of burning, trip gone. Now it has to wait till after Xmas/New year for me to get back from my hols. Am keeping fingers crossed that the timer/prog.selector is all I’ll need.(£10/£12 Seme / Masterpart ,can’t find on Connect).
Moral: Don’t try this at home.

I had something similar with a Creda washing machine a few years back, fortunately, it was at a guest house that had 2 identical machines so I could compare plug positions with the other one. Now I always do a sketch in my invoice book showing what goes where.

Finally returned to this one this am.(Time is no longer important as the tenant has now obtained their own machine and this one waits in the landlord’s garage).
Fitted new timer selector switch and the re-con module from EMW.
Result:- timer clicks round and round and 8 flashes* now. Tried disconnecting various components out of desperation. Nothing helped until I disconnected the heater element. Then, with that disconnected, everything started up fine! But heater is 32ohms (normal) and shows virtually nil insulation breakdown on my megger even at 1000v on highest scale. Rang EMW and they were baffled as, normally, disconnecting a component causes the thing not to start up.They suggested possible thermistor fault. Seems unlikely; it was one of the first things I looked at on 1st visit.
(*since looked up in error codes = htr relay not operating)
I’ll go back and try with an element from something else in a couple days to avoid expense and maybe try tapping the relay. Meantime, any ideas will be welcomed.If none of it works it’s no big deal as I can return the module to emw and the other bits don’t cost much.

I Had a “heater realy” fault last week, was the thermistor!

So does anybody know what the resistance of these Merloni thermistors should be at room temp.? And at what point one will trigger a fault condition?

Off the top of my head, I don’t remember but you can still get a nice reading in kOhms and it’s out of tolerance – click, click, click…….

Thermistor values.
All these values are typical and only applicable COLD.
Most Merloni- 22K ohms
Hoover 100 ohms
Zanussi based stuff 65 ohms
Hotpoint (good ol’) 1600 ohms
On Zanussi and Merloni washer/ driers you need to test BOTH the wash AND the drier thermistors and gently pull the flimsy wiring to check for broken tag connections-I have had several machines with perfectly good looking wires but they break off with the slightest bend ; retag, hey presto!

Thanks Steve for that very useful info. I must write it in my tips and tricks book (not for publication till I retire and then I’ll be open to offers to withhold 😆 ).
I’ve now ordered a “thermostat” from Seme for this model though I don’t know if it’s the drier or wash thermistor they’re supplying.Thanks Penguin also. I think the value did strike me as a bit “unusual” (it was before Xmas) when I first measured it.
It’s beginning to look as though I’ve c***ed up on this machine a bit! 😳
