ParticipantHad a call from a customer today who explained that her inner oven door glass had dropped out. She had called a compeditor to fix the Inner Door Glass which they did by using a special adhesive. During the repair process the outer Door Glass shattered and it turns out that it is unavailable for a month from the manufacturer.
The other company has stated that the cooker can be used normally until the outer door glass arrives but the customer should avoid touching the inner door glass which is now exposed!
Although this inner door glass is heat resistant as designed this customer was attempting to get us to clarify if indeed it would be safe. we did not wish to endorse what the other company had stated and had worries about this customer using this appliance especially considering that at this time of the year ovens have extend and prolonged use.
I wonder what the implications of this are and what they may be should something happen ?
Any Ideas, is this safe practice ?

The implications of misinformed and ill conceived advise over using such a device in this extremely dangerous state is totally irresponsible at the very least. Suffice to say that under no circumstances whatsoever should a glass doored oven be used when its door has failed in any way (including faulty glass, hinges or seals).
If the owner/user countermands this advise it would be wise to document any warnings you have given and get them to sign to that effect, so at least you are in the clear 😉
P.S I have moved this post from the public forum by the way 🙂

I would have no problem telling the customer that she could use this oven.
As long as the inner glass was in place, the handle was secure and she was made aware of the temperature which the glass would be.
I suppose nowadays in this stupid litigious country we live in, it would be sensible to get her to sign something, but “extremely dangerous”. I wouldnt go that far.December 26, 2005 at 9:43 am #158879robbra

Without all parts of the door intact this would greatly reduce the rigidity and increase the likelyhood of the inner glass shattering too, disregarding the fact of the temperature of the inner glass being dangerous. Better safe than sorry.
