    Please help,
Our gas boiler has just packed in.
Will not stay lit after ignition, I think its the thermocouple.
Does anybody know how to test the thermocouple?
Should I get a meter reading of 0.6v dc when it is heated?

    Any help gratefully recieved.

Hi, I don’t really know much about gas boilers but my friend is an ex-gas fitter and from what i can remember he told me, it’s almost certain to be the thermocouple. I’m sure Homebase and B&Q sell them. The only place you’ll get one today. Sorry i can’t be more helpfull than that.

Anything over 30mV should be OK. Failing that, see if there is an interuptor in the thermocouple with an overheat stat in line – try shorting the terminals and see if the pilot stays lit.

I know it’s in the trade forum chaps but just a reminder that even us engineers are breaking the law by repairing something we are not qualified to, even in your own home 😉

    Dave.
