Which Brand of Washer/Dryer do I buy?

Hi, I’m having a problem deciding which washer/dryer to buy and I thought you guys might be able to steer me in the right direction.

I have budgeted for about £600 but I am prepared to pay more if I think it would be worth it.

I guess the ol’ rule applies that “you get what you pay for”, but there must be a limit where you’re just paying for gimmicks and extra features and not for reliability and build quality…….which are my two main criteria.

I have seen a Smeg WDF16BAX that I can get for £750 delivered, and I’d be prepared to pay for it if I get enough positive feedback. I have scanned this forum and don’t see Smeg come up in the titles very often, if at all. Is this because they’re very reliable, or does everyone steer clear of them?!!

I suppose my primary question is are there any white elephants or brands with known issues that I should avoid?
Which brand offers the best value for money and is £750 for a Smeg worth the outlay in the long run?

I’d appreciate any comments or advice from your collective wealth of experience and knowledge, and if you feel the need, insults and general cussing for being a complete amatuer will also be gratefully received!!!!!
