I have a built in CDA CW781 fridge which has suddenly decided to freeze all its contents! I first discovered it yesterday and I put it down to the thermostat being accidently turned up, although it was at setting 2 (of 4) when the problem was found.

Tried lowering the setting to the minimum and tested it by placing a glass of water in fridge overnight. Unfortunately it was well and truly frozen this morning.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated and if this is a common fault is it a possible DIY fix.

    Many thanks

It sounds like the thermostat is at fault but it is quite unusual as they normally fail to “dead” rather than run continuously. It could also be the phial tube has become detached from the evaporator which is terminal, this cannot be detected though as it is integral within the insulation.

The thermostat is around £30 inc VAT (plus fitting if an engineer were to carry our the repair) so whether it’s worth the gamble of trying one ?? 😕

    Dave,

    Thanks for the quick response.

I’ll probably try replacing the thermostat. Is it a possible DIY job? With it being an in built unit I assume it is easily accessible once the fridge is removed from its housing. With the control knob being at the front/top I assume that’s where the thermostat will be.

Before I do this I might just see if the problem has sorted itself. This morning I unplugged the fridge for a couple of hours and then switched it back on – the glass of water I left in there doesn’t seem to be freezing up yet (although there’s nothing else in there). I’ll leave it overnight to see what happens.

Is it possible for the thermostat reset itself after being unplugged for a while?

Drop me an email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk please with the above model etc if you need the thermostat 😀
