I have been asked to take a look at my sisters microwave, you know how it goes, fix one thing for the family suddenly you can fix anything. Anyway, the grill part is working, but the microwave part won’t heat up any food. Make and model to be established as I’ve not collected it yet. Just looking for a few pointers before proceeding.

    Thanks for any help.

Can I dissuade you from fixing I yourself?

Even when unplugged, a microwave’s capacitor holds upto 3000 volts! :zap:

If you ring around some local domestic appliance repairers, I’m sure you’ll find one that fixes microwaves.

Due to the extremely high voltages involved with microwaves and the danger of microwave leakage these can only be repaired by an engineer with the correct test and safety equipment I’m afraid.

Ask you sister to take it to someone with the above for everyone’s safety 😉

Definately a job for the professional! The voltages here can and DO KILL. An electrical repairer was recently killed in New York whilst “tinkering” with the product plugged in.

Spares and the labour costs involved mean that it may as cheap to buy a new combination oven. I’m on my third at the moment!
