ParticipantHi all!
My brother has owned a Smeg DWI710E1 dishwasher for approx 3 years now and has called on me for some advice…here’s the problem…
He has recently been hearing a sharp and loud ‘crack’ coming from the machine every so often. On examining the appliance I have found what looks like a black plastic capacitor or suppressor underneath (3 wires- one of them earth) with its base blown off. I believe this is what is causing the noise and have seen a spark coming from it.
Am I correct in my identification of the part and, if so, should this part have developed such a fault so soon? Is this a common occurrence?
He has only just started to use the machine regularly for the last year or so and I believe that this faulty part should be replaced F.O.C. as it is likely that it was faulty when manufactured.
What do you guys think? Is it worth pursuing with Smeg or would it just be easier and cheaper to order the part (or get engineer to install).Any help greatly appreciated 😀
Dave.

I really don’t fancy your chances of getting the part FOC with a 3 year old machine, regardless of actual use, to be honest.
If you wish we can order the part for you; genuine Smeg part 811770337 £9.73 excluding VAT & P+P
email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk if required.
If you require to have someone fit this for you try Repairs@ for a local engineer.

Hey, thanks for the prompt reply!
Thought it might be worth a try, ah well.
So, what exactly is the faulty part I have described? Should I take any precautions (besides the obvious – power off) before installing? If it is a capacitor, should it be discharged before disconnecting?January 4, 2006 at 5:08 pm #159677NWAR

Sorry, this was the capacitor that I given the details for.
Unfortunately we are not permitted to give you detailed instruction on how to conduct these sort of repairs yourself. You, or anyone else reading this post after you, may not be considered competent enough to safely work on this appliance and due to the risk of personal injury we cannot describe the prodedure for replacing the capacitor.
All I would say is that if you are at all in doubt about carrying out this repair I would strongly advise calling in a professional.
If you do decide to fit the part yourself please work safely and disconnect the power supply before discharging the capacitor prior to removal.

Sorry. Internet connection went down, couldn’t order part. Anyways…
There has been some confusion about the part I need. A guy that works in a parts shop has told me the part in question is a noise suppressor and can be bypassed, but I’m not so sure. Here is a run-down of what is printed on the part…D.E.M. 70092
250V HPF 25/055/21C
EN132400
0.1 uf (x2) + 2.2 M ohm
2x 0.0027 uf (y2)Any ideas?
I would be interested in ordering the part through the site. Thanks again.
