ParticipantHi,
The thread title probably says it all! I’ve got a Creda 1200 Cascade Ecowash and the drum isn’t spinning on any setting.
I’ve had the power off and the top off, there’s no sign of any physical damage and the belt seems nice and taut.
No obvious loose connections but I’ve taken them all off and checked for damage before replacing.
Can’t find a serial number on the machine, but the motor type is 904/1158/10
Is this likely to be a dead motor, or in your experience is there anything else I should be looking for?
Any help gratefully appreciated, thanks for your time

More likely the motor brushes are worn 😉

ParticipantThank you, I guess these are relatively simple to replace?
Thanks for your advice.

Thanks again for your help. 🙂

Sorry to jump in on this thread however wonder if you could help me?
My mothers washer (CREDA 1150) started making a ‘loud noise’ when spinning. I took off the lid and back to have a look and could see nothing untoward however when manually spinning the drum it’s noisy and making a slight grinding noise and suspect a bearing may have gone. Is this worth fixing or should I scrap it?
Fortunately she’s got a spare machine, it’s a Creda 1200 Cascade Washer Dryer ecowash series, I can’t see what the Model number is. This has been in her garage for some time and was believed to be working however when I plugged it in after a few minutes there was a bang and the fuse had blown. I took off the top and had a look inside but could see no obvious signs of electrical fault, i.e. smoke, burning etc. and so suspect it may just be because of condensation/moisture within the washer, is this feasible? I have since ran a quick test wash succesfully with no futher incident however with the lid off noticed that arcing or sparking can be seen within the motor when the drum is turning is this normal?
Finally I’ve tried to find a manual online without success, the website http://www.theservicecentre.co.uk only appears to refer to model numbers which I can’t determine, does anyone know what this may be?
Many thanks in advance
Will

It depends on how long it has been used with the bearings failing, difficult to say if you would get away with bearing and seal repair, or also need a drum support, worst case is that a new outer drum is required. Only an on the spot investigation would ascertain the extent of the damage.
With regard to the other machine, it may be worn brushes but blowing a 13 amp fuse is usually a sign of other possible damage.Exact model numbers would help together with the serial number which incorporates a date code, if as I suspect these are Hotpoint produced machines. Serial number can normally be found inside the door trim or on the door hinge. Also on the back of earlier machines. If they are in fact Creda produced machines then they are getting a bit long in the tooth.
PS, online manuals are only ‘user’ manuals, they are not technical or service manuals.

The 1150 will be a “proper” Creda and is therefore ancient with poor parts availablity. Scrap it.
The 1200 is a Hotpoint in a skirt, the model number will be found on a label on the inside of the door frame. A twinkling from the motor is normal; sparks and flashings are not. The brushes may well be sticking or worn out. They are in the shop@ part of the site and are cheap enough.
I would suggest getting the appliance electrically checked for safety given that it’s been laid up – perhaps get the brushes done at the same time. Click on the link below for an engineer in your area.
Power off if doing further investigations.

Thanks guys for the quick response, fantastic service! I’ll scrap the 1150 and confirm the model number of the 1200 and post later. Will take advice re Electrical check, also re manual, It’s for my mother, she’s getting on a bit and hasn’t a clue how to work it so a user manual is all that’s required.
Thanks again

Hi, just checked, it’s a Model Number: 17345e and the Serial Number is : 11181071. The washer came with a flat I’d bought and I had never even switched it on so have no idea how old it is but it does look in good nick.
I’ve now found and downloaded the user manual from the website which is a great help.
Thanks again

Machine was produced in November 1994, a good age for a washer dryer. 🙂
