ModeratorInitial complaint, all lights flashed then went out, machine dead.
The machine has just been moved outside, into a ‘custom built’ shed. 😥 No heating and no hot water feed, hot pipe not connected by a ‘Y’ piece so it would not work correctly anyhow. Went this morning at 7.30 and although it was bloody cold the shed and the machine are both bone dry.Traced fault to PCB., looking from the front, green side of the module, a small chip situated at the very bottom, right hand corner of the board has a small piece missing. Didn’t have a WMA 31 board but used a WMA34 board to test and managed to get the machine to spin to confirm diagnosis. Anyone any ideas as to what circuits or components this chip linked to? The heater, motor, pump, wiring harness, door lock, valves etc all check out perfectly.

Hi, The small chip in the corner is connected to the door lock. I have replaced many of these locks but it doesn’t always blow the chip, but whenever the chip is blown i always change the lock and check the door seal.

Usualy when the board blows its either the wires getting chaffed on the balance weight or it is the brushes wearing out on the Bosch motor fitted to some of the Wma’s identified by the white brush holder covers , had one today com shot on motor, ended up replacing module and motor.

I have for some time now replaced the door lock ‘just in case’ , normally I find tracks blown caused by, motor/wiring harness problems. This is the first one I have had with this chip damaged.

It is odd that people can have similar calls and see completly different ratios of faults. I have repaired many broken motor wires; only had one pcb damaged, but have had at least 10 taken out by the door interlock. Maybe my customers slam the door in frustration 🙂
