ParticipantI am working on a horizontal washing machine (made in Italy Amcor Grande Super 2) that the induction motor turns the drum during regular washing fine, but when it gets to the spin cycle it doesn’t do anything. I have checked the motor ohm-wise and it appears to be fine. I ran the machine with the connector to the motor disconnected and there was power going through the connector that is attached to the coil that should be for the spin cycle. The collector is rated at 20 mF and when I checked it, it was fine.
Any ideas?javascript:emoticon(‘:?:’)

I’ve never heard of a machine of that make in UK.
Does it have an electronic speed control module* either seperate from or integral with the timer/programmer?
(*= printed circuit board)

I’m not located in the UK but it is possible that the same machine just under a different brand name was sold there at some point.
This is an older machine without any cirucit boards just a timer.Simmy

I take it you have replaced the CAPACITOR Simmy?

ParticipantRe: Washing machine not doing spin cycle
I checked the capacitor (20mF) with my multimeter and it was fine. Also since there is only one capacitor for this machine (besides the noise cancelling one) and the drum turns duing the wash cycle I wouldn’t think thats the problem. You think I should try replacing it anyway?
Thanks for the help

Hi If the machine only has one capacitor and is an induction motor the capacitor is switched between the wash windings and spin windings via the timer this can cause timer contacts to burn you need to get a wiring diagram and try wiring the motor on a test with a seperate capacitor on the spin windings.
This was a common problem on old bendix washing machines and it was possible to add a seperate capacitor in the spin circuit but you need a wiring diagram to work it out.

Unless you’ve got bags of time or the experience needed to follow Bassman’s advice quickly then you might be better off trying a new capacitor 1st (very cheap), then considering availability/price new or re-conditioned timer. If machine is that old though could well be time to scrap it 😥
Mike.
PS Check motor windings carefully for signs of burning/overheating/discolouration.January 17, 2006 at 7:23 am #160518Simmy
ParticipantRe: Washing machine not doing spin cycle
I tried a new capacitor and I still have the problem. I manually spun the drum and then the motor was able to do the spin. Can anyone suggest how I would go about determining which connection on the timer would be the problem, (I don’t have a wiring diagram)?
Thanks

Sorry Simmy but you’re on your own there I’m afraid. 🙁

Sounds if the motor windings could be duff, presuming that you have checked motor conections on loom plug & there is no bad connections etc.

This was exactly what the Bedix machines did as I explained earlier it may well be timer contacts not switching capacitor over to spin windings.

ParticipantRe: Washing machine not doing spin cycle
Totally agree with bassman on this one. Had loads in the past and got quite used to disconnecting the capacitor switching wiring at the timer and fitting a pair of capacitors tapped into the motor loom on the chassis. Makes a much more reliable job of it. 😀

It looks like the problem is with the timer. The connection for the start winding isn’t giving out 220v (only 177v or so)
Any recomendations on how I would go about “fitting a pair of capacitors tapped into the motor loom on the chassis”?Thanks for all the help so far!
