ParticipantHi,
I am looking for a tumble dryer that can be mounted on a wall above a worktop ( e.g. bottom of dryer around 140 cm from floor and top of dryer close to the ceiling). Venting to outside would not be a problem. The closest I have found is a Zanussi TC180W which has the cotnrols nicely situated near the bottom right but unfortunately the load (3.4kg max) is too small. Can anyone suggest an alternative?
I am toying with the idea of just mounting a standard vented electric tumble dryer upside down on the wall. I have been told this is quite a normal practise in Australia (not an Aus upside down joke). Any comments on doing this?
Thanks in advance for your help

In theory, as long as the motor is ‘capcitor run’ which is almost all modern tumble dryers, it would run. The main problems would be with the filters. If they are door mounted, or in a duct at the front, they would foul the door if the machine was inverted, Also fluff and lint build up could occur around components that may cause a fire. Your warranty would almost certainly be void if you installed and ran most dryers in this position. Have you thought of a small set of steps. :)…… Many years ago, English Electric had a dryer that could be used upside down so that it could be stacked on a washer, it had two separate motor relays mounted side by side, one of which was upside down. I do not know of any modern equivalents.

Thanks, my current dryer has a filter just above the door whcih ‘falls’ out of the slot if I turn the dryer upside down. I guess I could just screw a small latch on to prevent this but figured fluff/lint may just then ‘fall’ down as well? Do you know of any dryers that have filter seperate from the door that might be suitable.

I would be concerned for the bearings both front and rear doing this. On many makes the front of the drum rests on the front bearings by gravity and to upside down it won the drum being on parts not designed to take the wear. seems a daft idea to me anyway.
