ParticipantHope you can help here goes.
Washer dryer was not heating to dry on drying cycle then a week later we noticed the clothes where ice cold after washing, my wife thinks the clothes where normally warm after washing. So I pulled the washer out popped the lid off and gave it a once over no loose wires etc, checked the pump on the lower front panel and found a penny in it but it was still pumping.
Put it all back together and hey presto the heater for the dryer is working!! but my wife is still sure the water isn’t heating for wash cycles.
So the questions are
1. How do I check for heating on wash?. (hold the outlet hose when it pumps out?)
2. Will the clothes be cold because it rinses cold?
3.Why would the dryer heater suddenly spring back to life?
4. Is there any common faults that could be causing the problem?Sorry it is so long winded any help greatly appreciated.

Answers……..
1) Drain hose works – also hand on door glass after about 15 mins.
2) Rinses should be cold water only – if they’re warm at the end, the hoses are reversed.
3) If poking about in the top, you may have reset the safety stat on the dryer box, but more likely that
4) Clearing the filter is allowing the dryer condenser to operate correctly. There is a constant trickle of cold water running into the machine during the drying cycle, also the steam is condensing off. It all collects in the sump, and the filter must be clear to allow the pump to work efficiently.Regards,

1. Yep, that’s one good way to check. Also listen for noise like kettle as element sizzles, although if it isn’t heating you’ll hear nothing. Most machines won’t go through whole prog. if heating no go.
2. More or less cold. Obviously depends on water temp.
3. Some machines have a resettable overload thermostat which you might have reset without knowing it. (Red button goes click when you push it).
4. If not heating on wash, post again.
Mike.Power off before removing panels or lid. :plug: Your safety is your resposibility.

thanks for the replies so far really appreciate the advice.
done all the checks and it is not heating on wash, no noise like a kettle etc, Haven’t found any stat reset buttons etc so i assume clearing the pump has allowed the dryer to work.
any thoughts on the not heating for wash?

Power off.
Find wash heater element in base of outer tub. Check terminals firmly attached/not burnt. Check resistance about 25 – 30 ohms. If element open circuit (large or infinity ohms reading)you need new element. If not,
probably time to call engineer after that as it becomes complicated.see repairs@

I don’t need to even look as I know it is heating on wash by virtue of the fact that the machine completes the full wash cycle. If the heater wasn’t working it would stick on the wash part of the cycle and would not rinse or spin. 😉

Or is there something like an “economy” option selected?Or possibly an ntc/stat malfunction allowing prog adv at lwr temp?
