Thought a thread on animal damage might be interesting.
Today I had a Bosch dishwasher with a mouse nest on the polystyrene float. It caused an overfill symptom as the float swelled up and lifted the switch.
Yesterday I had a slug caught fire on a mains suppressor on a Hotpoint washer.
Last week a dog had eaten the door seal on a washing machine…
Wonder what tomorrow will bring 😉
My most memorable was a robin nest inside a washing machine in an outhouse. The customer came back from holiday to find the nest inside the soap dispenser. There wasn’t any damage but the machine was out of action for several weeks until the fledglings flew the nest.

The float on the bosch is quite common to be eaten. Have bosch added an ingredient to it because they never chew the hoses now only the float??

Had a sump hose yesterday that had been chewed by a mouse.
And a float that had been attacked a few weeks back.

3 floats one machine in as many months but never hoses. We have choosy mice up her 😆

Several mouse damaged dishwashers, funny why on the Hotpoint/Bosch model they always chew in the exact same place on the sump hose. Had a few ‘fried mice’ on washer timers and tumble dryer heaters. Once had a drain outlet in the wall blocked by a kamikaze bird. I had a Hotpoint top loader that had a large cranefly, AKA a ‘Daddy Long Legs’ that had perished behind the plastic facia that the indicator needle passes along, left it there as it was to much hassle to remove it. Also had a Hotpoint top loader with a Crouzet timer that was damaged by an earwig, it had got between the timer contacts and burnt them, and itself to a frazzle. A few door seals and door handles chewed by dogs. 🙂

I had a nesting mouse in a Bosch diswasher last month that had a fettish for white seedless grapes, the base was full of them!
My customer thought her daughter had eaten all the grapes as they had dissappeared from the fruit bowl overnight!
For me the ‘Toad in the hole’ fault I solved last year was the most unusual fault I’ve come across :-

last year I removed a hpt d/w for repair in the workshop, it sat side by side to its sister w/m,whilst moving from under the worktop, my client said look out for the hamster, as it went behind last week but never returned.
Thinking no more about the lost hampster, I left the d/w in the van for a couple of days. I got into the van mid week to this obnocious smell, I thought I had left a stale sandwhich under the seat or something.
Not being able to trace the smell, I put up with it by opening the windows.
I started to remove the d/w mid morning and to my horror there “zapped” to the capacitor was one well done hamster, complete with additional maggot infestation. ( the smell)
Up on returning repaired d/w I informed my client that the hamster had a good send off, in an asda bag. He was planning to break the news to the kids gently, via the dangers of messing around with electricity!
