Participanthi all,
I have been having a number of calls from http://www.118trades.com asking me to subscribe to their yellow pages type website.
Having never even heard of this format of obtaining trades people over a
wide area of skills.. is it worth an investement and does it actually bring any work. I am told it gets hits of over a million per week(sales talk i suspect) and that it works well in the southern region.site looks convincing enough although very little content of trades in my area ( leicestershire)
you comments welcome
many thanks
Graham

KeymasterI have no experience or knowledge of them although, if it is 118 118 as they purport then they do advertise, just not that site from what I’ve seen. I’ve never seen anything online pointing to them either.

KeymasterKwatt, how about looking them up in the world listings, see if they really are on 1 million hits a week?

KeymasterQuick and simple, Alexa traffic details for 118trades.com is here
I’m not impressed, especailly if you run a comparison to UK Whitegoods on there. Those figures certainly do not support the claims.

ParticipantThey kept asking me to advertise with them so i asked them to see some proof of airing on telly etc. They kept saying they are going to be in a commertial break on itv and told me to watch but it never appeared. My wife works in advertising for the archant news paper group and they told me they had spent 1 million pounds in this paper but my wife looked into it and found nothing so beware it may be a scam.

KeymasterYeah it’s a bit odd that such a “supposedly” well advertised website like that ranks lower than UKW does. 😕
It also ranks a big ZERO on Google too and those combined ring a very loud klaxon. 😉

Participantjust an update on this subject, after having great difficulty in getting over what NO meant to this sales person, ( very persisitant 5 calls to my mobile and very obliging in knocking the Vat off if he could secure a deal, complete with my credit card details)
I thought I would follow his up boosts about how this website had gone through the ricter scale down in the Essex area over the last 4 years. By providing shed loads of work in my disapline??
a couple of emails to some subscribers on 18 month advertising contracts
were well worth the effort.in a nutshell “a total waste of cash” no calls in 15month and 2 calls in 17 months.
so its comming to you in your area..very plusable sales talk, backed up with a mass of data relating to advertising nationally, ( although I have yet to see any) that does not stack up, although if you take the TV times, you might spot an advert or 2 this very week.( so I am told)
best advise..check out their boosts with subcribers first. Or better still put the fee into a holiday in the sun. More importantly run off terms & conditions and see were you money might go, and how it is controlled by others.
