ParticipantHello,
Our dishwasher is playing up and i’m hoping you folks can spare us the horror of having to wash our crockery by hand (we’re a family of 5 but the kids aren’t old enough to do it yet!).
The first main problem i noticed was that it suddenly stopped drying the dishes – no hot air. THen i realised it wasn’t washing fatty deposits off plates that well – no hot water either.
I’ve had the front door off and i cant see any loose or damaged connections to the control unit. However, it now seems to be taking over 2 hours to go through a standard (economy) wash cycle. Also, when i interrupt the drying cycle by opening the door, it doesn’t cancel the programme like it used to – the drying light stays on for another hour or so. Finally, the rinse aid despenser doesn’t work at all, but that’s been like that for ages now.
So what’s my problem (apart from wrinkly fingers from doing the washing up in the sink!)?

Almost certainly heater failure – these tubular ones don’t seem to last well. The solenoid on the dispenser will be the reason for the flap not firing.
1115321-10/9 is the heater, around £30 and 1525531-30/5 is the
dispenser assembly, around £27 from memory. VAT + p&p as well. However, this is a complex appliance, so getting the diagnosis right is important to your wallet, so perhaps time for an engineer? Click the link below
Power off if investigating.

Just as likely to be the relay in the main control board in the fascia.
Suggest you get a repairer in to diagnose, and that way you are ensured of the right parts being ordered, and a warranty on the work.

I take it the relay in the control unit is not available as a spare – i’m guessing you have to buy the entire control unit. Any ideas how much?
I can see that this is a lot easier to replace than the heater as i cant even see where the latter is. How do you get to the heater to replace it?
We live in a very hard water area, so i can see that the heater might have furred up and failed, thought doesn’t the salt etc. prevent this?
It seems to have failed very quickly – like one day it was working fine, the next it wasn’t. There wasn’t a gradual decline in performance.

Interesting comments. A heater will work or not – no half measures. The relay on the board will almost certainly go “hit-or-miss” for a short time at least. The relay will be available from one of the electronics specialists (Radio Spares for instance) if you have the time, patience and skills to identify and change it.
Otherwise:
1115321-10/9 – heater – about £30 plus the vat, or
1525782-23/9 – pcb – about £85, plus vat.We can’t give you a blow by blow account of how to repair your machine, however I can tell you that the heater is a tubular one, in line with the circulation pump and it’s a far more common failure than the computer board……….
Power off if you’re going to wield the test meter. Or you could click the link below for some pro help.
