ParticipantGot a good story to go into the weird faults database.
One of our guys went to a Fisher and Paykel dishdrawer the other day with a reported fault of all the figures in the LCD flashing on and off at random. He got to the house and the customer said to him that it also had another fault that he did not report to the office as he was sure the call booking staff would think he was mad. 👿
The customer said that when he pushed the start button the machine would play “The Star Spangled Banner”. The engineer, being a man of some 12 years experience in appliances thought the guy had lost it till he pressed the start button and sure enough out comes the tune with the engineer and the customer standing to attention with their hands on their hearts :rotl: Turns out appliance is in some kind of promotion mode for the American market
Got home tonight and thought I will try this and on my first try I got Lady Lynda from the Beach Boys ❗ and then got The Star Spangled Banner.
The moral behind this story is that the customer is sometimes right 😆

There’s an eegg built into the software on a Hotpoint WD72 (I think) that runs an little critter along the screen. I have only seen it once (about 6 years ago) when the customer had spilt coffee down the front and shorted out the option buttons. The bods at head office at Hotpoint wouldn’t believe it until I sent them a copy of the customer’s video of the machine!

Reminds me of my time at Hoover some 25 years ago….we were told about a cylinder model that was being trialled which had a voice module in it. It would chirp up with things like ‘the bag is full’ etc when required. Needless to say us engineers thought it should really say things like ‘you missed a bit in the corner’ etc 😆
Suprisingly it never got past the trials stage…… -
