ParticipantHi guys, been tearing my hair out with my dishwasher. The machine takes in water, appears to be about to start the wash cycle, then flashes eco and prewash, and pumps the water out again. Hotpoint say those lights indicate a filter problem – the filters are fine. I’ve had it apart – the pump runs fine, the drain pump too, the pressure switch is okay, the venturi system appears clear, the valves letting water in are obviously okay. All pipes are clear.
I’d say the water gets about half an inch deep in the DW before it pumps it all back out again – any ideas?
Machine is just two years old… damn thing…

The codes displayed by these machines are notoriously inaccurate – they do at least tell you there’s a problem!
Check the heater – big weak spot on these machines.
Power off of course.

Okay, tried the meter on the heater element, no problems there, appears to be sound.
Any other ideas?
The way I figure it, either something is telling the machine it is over full, so it pumps out, or, more likely, would I be right in thinking that any error message on the machine triggers it to pump out?

Are you sure? What meter are you testing it with?
Heating elements down to earth cause untold grief!
Also, test the ‘anti-flood’ device microswitch whilst you’re there?

Just a multimeter, but it isn’t open, and there’s no circuit betwen it and earth. I suppose there could be an earth fault when the heater warms up – is that common? The flood switch is fine too; no circuit in the usual state, zero resistance once tripped.

I’ve the opposite problem with this exact model…. it won’t empty.
Bloody thing is less than 2 years old as well.
Hotpoint must design these things to just barely make it past their 1 year free parts & labour. The Eco and Fast lights were flashing for me.
Hotpoint support said it was a blocked filter… but it’s not.
I cleaned the filters just fine, including the water intake filter attached to the cold water mains.
In fact, when I put the drain pipe into an empty basin, and let gravity drain the water, there’s no blockage at all…..
I assume there must be a drain pump that has broken down.Less than 2 years old, and had the lightest of use, for just one person…..
The bottom rack is too low also… the upper rotary arm can’t swing if I put a few plates in. Not impressed with this machine at all.
Hotpoint want to charge me Eur100 just to send an engineer out… I assume I have to pay for the replacement parts too.
Sorry for the bit of a rant, but maybe there’s some information in there for others.

Most likely a drain pump blockage – the machine (despite its inadequacies) is not old enough for a drain pump failure. Yet. So – pay them the money, or check the link below for an independent engineer.

Its 99.9{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} Indesit 😥 don’t be to harsh on the machine yet, I agree with P45, almost certainly a blockage, usually caused by something that shouldn’t be in there in the first place, small pieces of bone, broken glass, bits of plastic, cling film, cocktail sticks, cherry stones, grape stalks etc, etc. 😉 -
