Greetings all, would appreciate any thoughts on this one.

Had noticed increased noise recently on spin cycle but other day seemed to be spinning for an unusually long time and then smoke started to come out of it. Shut it down and when I opened the door the smoke seemed to be coming from inside the drum??? , powered off and opened it up to investigate (day after) but cannot trace anything jamming or obviously loose, however following advice from another thread i had read (on broken drum leg I think) checked for lateral play and there is a small discernable difference when I pull the drum in line with one of the legs. Would this have been likely to have caused my lightly smoked undergarments?

Also Mrs Hairy Mon decided to press on regardless and has since done another wash but on a lower spin speed ..spin still noisy but undies have escaped unsmoked!

Just a thought, if your car was making a strange noise and started smoking, would you just carry on driving it? If your washing machine makes any unusual noises or has a leak you should stop it at once and get it looked at. How would you feel if it did actually catch fire, knowing you had ignored an obvious fault. Mains off if you are going to check further or get somone with the required skills ASAP. Please don’t keep on using the machine.

Yes , thanks for the car analogy…. I`d really no intention to carry on using the thing. It was a short closely monitored test wash to try and establish more exactly what the symptoms were. Unfortunately I am on a limited income at the moment and as with many people on this site I was hoping that I could get some advice that that would help me decide whether the money I do have should be spent on an engineer or better put towards a new machine. I take the point that my initial post sounded a bit numb but if anyone could actually help me with the problem described I really would appreciate it.

Do you have the full model/enr number and FD number. It will be around door inner.Just so we can gauge age and possible cost of parts.

Ok by the model alone its app 9years old.
The drum cross piece is £53 +vat alone, if this is whats broken and you will probably be best changing bearings and maybe heater and door seal; its starting to mount up now on an “old” machine.
Personally a machine of this age and displaying a fault that you have; I would cut my losses as it tends to be the start of the end. Without seeing appliance obviously this is all speculation but I think you know what Im trying to say to you 😉
